Driving Scenes: CA-Las Vegas, Spring 2010

Spring Break. One week. What to do? Well, Las Vegas was the course. Palazzo and Venetian were offering free nights on some of the nights during Spring Break. Wynn had a special offer that came with a free night as well (via special email). At least 5 people who I knew were going on the same week. Las Vegas is after all, the inexpensive Californian vacation. Cheap room rates for what you get, and you don't need to fly (saving tons of money which can be spent on other things, like food). Even teachers said, "If I'm going anywhere, I'm going to Vegas. It's cheap!" Besides, why not go for complimentary rooms anyway? Too late. Booking on Sunday for a Tuesday departure? Crazy! It's what happens when there is work to be done first. Ahem...my trip to Hong Kong two years ago was booked less than 12 hours before departure, so we're not first-timers into the "procrastination" traveler zone. What we noticed already was that the rooms were filling up. And...

Easter 2010: Visiting UCI, Fashion Island, and Flemings- Newport Beach

I like to visit the OC during the weekends. And last week, I did! Yay! Every visit to the OC pretty much starts out with a visit to UCI through the Bison entrance. There is an advantage to this. It's closer for those who live in communities like University Hills, Middle Earth, Arroyo Vista, et cetera to come through this entrance. Secondly, the entrance is grand, with two of these beautiful welcome signs to greet you. They are most certainly the best welcome signs in the entire UCI. :) I took a picture of one of the buildings at Arroyo Vista for fun. After dropping stuff off at UCI, we headed off to Fashion Island, but meanwhile, a bronze bull had suddenly become one with bunny ears for Easter as we waited at a stoplight. Unfortunately, Fashion Island was closed, but there was still plenty of scenery to see. Like the fountain that you see here. Crows made funny faces and ate what they could. They did not look bored at all! And this cute bird was staring into the construction taking...

Capital Seafood- Arcadia: Dim Sum Visit #1

After a pretty good first impression on Capital Seafood , who touts itself as "Tradition Redefined", we decided to visit it full out during the weekend after a nice morning walk and picture taking at the Arboretum. Besides, everyone seems to be visiting the Capital Seafood-Arcadia: First Impressions page A LOT. It's already first on the list for Google's search engine, but that post didn't even have pictures of the food! This post will, as well as lots of plenty non-food photos. Should I put a smiley face or a frown face for that? It is up to you. :) (Your eyes are not tricking you: most of the people have been washed out with black paint) After parking, the first thing we were greeted by was a tree. If you look carefully, it's the same as the Hyatt plant I showed you in the last post . This tree is supposed to symbolize good things, and if you can read the Chinese characters it is wishing for Capital Seafood to prosper. This is usually what you see when a ne...
