Baja Fresh

Baja Fresh is well, another different "Fresh Mexican Grill" place. Unlike Chipotle though, the food is not made right in front of your face, but they do prepare it when you order. In addition, another plus is unlimited salsa, which Chipotle doesn't have. Also, there are free warm tortilla chips that come with your meal. It's something nice to munch on while you wait. What is this, you ask? All you see right now is a burrito with a slightly flaky, crisped up flour tortilla on the outside. Cut! Cut! Goes the plastic knife, and this is what greets you after stacking the now 2 piece burrito. What is it? Well, it's the grilled chicken cabo cobb burrito, which although seems like it is gone forever (well, you can't find it online), is still available at the Monrovia location. It is basically a very hearty salad that has well, become into a burrito. Lettuce, black beans, avocado, cojita & jack & cheddar cheeses (used sparingly), pico de gallo, and lots of fla...

Rubios Monrovia

There is nothing more interesting when your brand name is written in huge letters across a metal wall. And this is what happened in Rubios in Monrovia. We managed to try out this place after going to the Pasadena location for 2 times already. It seems like both locations have minor differences in the food actually. But what is the big difference? You already just saw one. It is the crazy interior of this place. The cash register is nothing that crazy, but have you seen such a big sign for salsa? And look at that blue roof thing. Interesting is the word. The salsas though are not chunky- more like blended to become more like a thin sauce. And of course, there is the Rubios lights on top of the tables, which have tile and wood on them. Colorful, but probably hard to clean if something gets stuck on the grout portion of the tables. But the craziest thing of all, is this. A vast wooden hut. Inside the hut there are lots of festive lights too. Haven't seen stuff like this in any fast f...

Chipotle Mexican Grill's Burritos

For 5.70 you can get a big, stubby, delectable chicken burrito (or fajita, taco, burrito bol, etc...) at our local Chipotle. It's extremely big, but in reality it all really depends on your maker. Some of the people are stingy with the ingredients; some are not at all. Today, the people were slightly stingy, especially the salsa person. She gave me only one small scoop of salsa! They typically give a big, heaping scoop of salsa... Chipotles in general are very modern, with red tones, wooden chairs, and lots of metal. Somehow, our first experience in a Chipotle was far far away, in the East Coast two years ago in 2007. And since we liked it so much, we ate it so many times, only to find out it was a CHAIN and was actually going to open in our area soon (when we came back though...)! But...somehow we think the Arlington, MD location was fresher and more delicious when we went to this location the first time. You see, there are differences though! Makes it feel not bad that we went t...
