Eat. Travel. Eat!

While at the Ferry Building Marketplace, one store stood out in terms of a long queue and lots of people enjoying its products-- Humphry Slocombe Ice Cream, established in 2008. After enjoying lunch at The Slanted Door , we decided to check it out. The storefront was quite simple, with a blue, white, and metal theme. The funnest part of Humphry Slocombe are the flavors-- lots of intriguing, unconventional flavor mixes and blends. Samples were graciously offered (through metal tasting spoons), letting you sample a variety of flavors before choosing the ones you want to order.

During a recent trip to the Ferry Building Marketplace in San Francisco, we stopped by The Slanted Door for lunch, a modern Vietnamese restaurant that came highly recommended per a review by Kevin Hsu of kevinEats .

After having lunch at Bistro Boudin- Fisherman's Wharf and visiting the Golden Gate Bridge, our next stop was Chinatown. There, we were immersed in scenes full of color and culture. Even banks followed a theme of having Chinese style architecture. A window display of baked goods prompted me to stop at Eastern Bakery. It is located right next to the Wok Shop , but we were not able to visit the Wok Shop as it was already closed for the day. Eastern Bakery, however, was still open and inside, it seemed as if some organization was having a meeting there while enjoying various baked goods.

After reading David Ng's article on Boudin , I reminded myself to visit the Fisherman's Wharf location on a future trip to San Francisco. So, after visiting UC Berkeley, we promptly went back to San Francisco for a late lunch at Boudin. The Fisherman Wharf's location is a prime tourist spot; its glass windows and prominent logos make it distinctive among the other buildings in the area, and it houses five different sections: Peet's Coffee and tea, Baker's Hall, Bistro Boudin, Boudin Museum & Bakery Tour, and Bakery & Bakeshop. There is plenty to see and do in just this confined area! We skipped viewing most of the building and went upstairs to Bistro Boudin, a full-service restaurant. One will pay a premium at Bistro Boudin for its full-service capabilities, dining environment, cutlery, and additional items on the menu. While we were driving, I searched for restaurants outside of San Francisco so we could eat and not deal with evening rush hour traffic. I came to the conclusion that Koi Palace was one of the best Chinese options in the Bay area after glancing through Foodnut's website and looking at various restaurant photos on Yelp and Urbanspoon, and so we stopped at Koi Palace for dinner. The exterior of the restaurant suggests a fancy, upscale look, and while Koi Palace sounds like an original name, its Chinese name is not. Similar to other Chinese restaurants, Koi Palace's Chinese name is an allusion to a famous place or restaurant in Asia; in this case, Koi Palace's Chinese name, pronounced as "Lei Yue Mun", is a allusion to Lei Yue Mun in Hong Kong, a popular place to enjoy fresh seafood.
