Pearl River Deli- Los Angeles (Chinatown), CA

Opened at the start of 2020, Pearl River Deli (PRD) is a burgeoning Cantonese food concept operated by chef Johnny Lee , located next to Howlin Rays in Los Angeles' Chinatown's Far East Plaza. Extensive forum posts on Food Talk Central ( 1 , 2 ) and articles published by  Eater , Los Angeles Times , amongst other outlets, have highlighted the innovative cooking going on: a focused menu of Cantonese classics with the volume turned up alongside weekly specials featuring cuisines not limited to Thai, Vietnamese, Yunnan, and more. Hence, on a recent outing in Los Angeles, I had to make a stop here to experience PRD for myself. I phoned my order in via phone, and got an expected wait time of 20 minutes. The estimate was correct, with my order just about to be boxed up when I arrived. Notably, pickup was rather safe, with payment done at the doorway entrance (hand sanitizer available),  a vinyl shield protecting the employees from the outside, and all employees wearing masks. Happy 2011 & Second Year For The Blog!

Happy 2011! Sure, this post is a day late, but unlike some previous Decembers, 2010's December had two fun weeks of traveling in Asia- not only just 2000+ pictures taken and lots of places visited, but lots of things learned as well. Guess where I took this picture from! Click on the photo for the answer. :) I hope everyone has had a great 2010 and I hope that 2011 will be an even better year moving forward. 2010 saw some differences in the blog compared to 2009/2008, mainly an increase in traffic during the summer months and a new record in daily visits! (378) I can see now that there are some patterns: popular places and expensive places are quite well liked by visitors on this site. Some things do not change however. The year came to a end just as quickly as before, maybe even quicker. And my schedule has been becoming busier and busier, allowing me less time to write posts. I really appreciate your continuing readership in the past year, especially since during the past mo...

Musings on a Year's Worth of Blogging

Who thought this day would happen, so fast? And thank goodness enough, I got better from the stomach flu. Lucky. At first I had all these plans, like reviewing my birthday cake for today, but being sick I never even forgot to finish editing the 50 photos of Pelican Hill STILL on Adobe Photoshop right now. RAM needs support. Anyway, the first blog post was posted on 9:22AM PST, and so I need to to finish exactly at that minute. :) I wish I had gifts. I could have given all of you 10 dollar Restaurant.com certificates but it would be via my personal email. Not such a great idea? Well, today I made the camera fall onto the carpet twice. Awful. At least CPK didn't screw up tonight's dinner like they did with my birthday. The server who previously was not our favorite was muy simpatico y amable (very nice and friendly), while our server during my birthday was our server today's opposite. So anyway, I thought I would give you my thoughts on a year's worth of blogging. New ex...

The Promenade @ Westfield Santa Anita

As I hoped, we were able to visit the mall last weekend. I decided to bump this post up, just because I am always behind posting with what is new onto this blog! I haven't even talked about our visit to Encore during its second day of opening. That was about 6 months ago. And the Promenade has been opened for several weeks already, but not everyone knows about it yet. So, not wanting to be behind, I am posting them today rather then later. Contrary to what I had thought, the parking was STILL not enough during the weekend. When we visited during Mother's day, the new parking lot was not very full. Now? Completely filled up. Tons of cars were moving around, looking for a space to park at. Disaster. Luckily though, we found a spot, and using their escalators (or elevator if you want to), we were able to get out of the parking lot and right into the Promenade. What is very interesting is that the Promenade still isn't fully completed. And so there are tons of billboards right ...

The Palazzo 2008 Review Part 3: The 44th floor views

Welcome to the last part of my Palazzo 2008 review! This part will be mainly photos and will showcase the great view we had from the high floors which we requested for. If you haven't read the previous parts of this review yet, you can read them here: The Palazzo 2008 Review Part 1: Introduction, Check In, and Public Spaces The Palazzo 2008 Review Part 2: The Luxury and Bella Suites And onward to part 3, the views! ---- If you have read Part 2 , which was on the Suites, you would know that the check in guy fully responded to my request of having a high floor at check in even when they were fully committed. The check-in guy gave us particularly great views- one which was toward the strip in front of the Palazzo, and one suite which faced back directly toward Wynn's golf course. Most definitely, the strip view room (the Bella suite for our case) had the most astounding view. However, the Luxury suite's view (facing toward the Wynn golf course) was nice in its own ways. Here...

The Palazzo 2008 Review Part 2: The Luxury and Bella Suites

-Part of the Las Vegas 2008 Trip Series- Welcome to the second part of the three part review of the Palazzo. This portion of the Palazzo review, will talk about the 2 different "suites" we had- the Luxury and Bella suites. If you haven't read part one, you can do so by clicking here . Part one talks about the parking garage, check in, and the public spaces. And now, let's go onward with the review shall we? ---- After we got our room keys, we headed straight for the elevators. Our elevator (also known as a "lift") lobby was near the end of all the elevator lobbies. There were several elevators catering to a zone of floors as expected for such a big hotel, and since the elevators had to travel far, they also went pretty fast. Thus, little waiting. Entering the elevator, there were ads for the hotel's entertainment and dining venues. Smart thing of Palazzo in my opinion? Whenever they showed Jersey Boys onto the screen, they played the Jersey Boy's mus...
